Memory Support, a specialized community located on the entire second floor, is part of our acclaimed Assisted Living program. The Summit’s Memory Support Community consists of 24 studio and one-bedroom apartments, all with private bathrooms, walk-in showers, and kitchenettes. Residents can spend time in their private apartments as desired but are encouraged to engage in purposeful activities with both community members and staff.
Our approach to memory care focuses on what residents can do (their choices and quality of life) instead of what they can no longer do. Skilled professionals offer support and care to help residents focus on their best abilities and make the connections they need to manage their world.
With plenty of staff, caregivers and activity experts engage with residents throughout the day. Utilizing evidence-based practices helps to minimize challenges, remove obstacles, reduce frustrations, and relieve anxiety. In turn, this helps to make life simpler, more enjoyable, and more rewarding for residents. For example, dining choices are abundant with plated visual cues to enable residents to easily choose their meals.
Essential memory support programming includes an ongoing, robust variety of activities designed to stimulate brain function and provide residents with a sense of self-worth and accomplishment. Memory care activities include:
- Art, music, and massage therapy
- Collaborations with the Frye Art Museum and Seattle Theatre Group
- “Time Slips” ™ storytelling
- Individualized iPod music programs
- Horticulture therapy
- Live musical performance
- Cooking and arts and crafts groups
- Weekly challah baking
- Shabbat and holiday services and celebrations
- Exercise classes and walking club
- Supervised weekly outings to Seattle parks, coffee shops, or the Woodland Park Zoo
Exceptional care by exceptional people … every day, in every way.
