The Schwartz-Alexander Unmet Needs Fund

It is a great privilege to announce Kline Galland’s new designated fund established by Debra Schwartz – the Schwartz-Alexander Unmet Needs Fund. This fund’s overall purpose will be to fund the gap of necessities for Home Health, Home Care and Hospice patients within Kline Galland Benaroya Community Services. The Schwartz-Alexander Fund aims to address necessities not covered by insurance or Medicare. Examples include: Essential medical supplies not covered by insurance, specialized equipment required for patient comfort and care, transportation costs related to medical appointments or special arrangements, and other critical needs directly impacting the quality of life of hospice patients.
Debra Schwartz’s inspiration for establishing this fund was in response to the wonderful care and service her family provided her in a time of need. Said Debra, “I wanted to do this to honor my siblings and their spouses..” Debra’s gift is a tribute to her brother, Steve Schwartz, his wife, Pam, her sister, Gail Alexander and her husband, Bob. The family shares a longstanding tradition of community involvement and have been longtime supporters of Kline Galland.
In her time at Kline Galland’s Rehab/TCU program, Debra complimented the high-quality care she received. “The rehab was fantastic. I appreciate the frequency of the therapy and the attentiveness of the CNAs. They were always there when I needed them, which meant a lot to me.”
As a retired registered nurse, Debra understands how important it is to provide exceptional care. Her experience as a public health nurse brought light to the unmet needs that people often face in the community. Her team always tried to find resources for patients who were resource deficient. When reflecting on how slim these resources were and are, Debra realizes how truly fortunate she was to have the familial support in her time of need.
“Their support was my key to recovery,” said Debra.
This fund aims to plug the gaps left by insurance coverage and address those unmet needs such as transportation to medical appointments and necessary equipment. She hopes this fund will eliminate some of the stress people experience when trying to make do without necessary resources, and ideally improve their quality of life.
Debra’s vision for the fund extends beyond financial support; it is about upholding values of compassion and community, and she invites others to add to the fund to have an even larger impact.
As a leading senior care non-profit, Kline Galland is grateful for the support of Debra Schwartz, as well as our greater community, whose commitment helps Kline Galland uphold our wonderful standards of care for every resident and patient.
